Unless that woman was being abused by him, her actions are in no way that of an empowered woman.

But our society has appropriated so much shit that we can't even be honest about who or what we are anymore. Most people's identity is made up largely of shit they "borrowed" from other people.

I really noticed this about a decade ago, how actions people consider ghetto or "ratchet" have been co-opted by women at large as being those of a "strong woman". I mean there has always been that aspect to society of women who are fed up and fight back but it's gotten so jumbled and mixed up with other completely unrelated things that people don't even know where to draw the line anymore.

No different with guys, either. Most guys these days have co-opted so much ghetto culture they don't even realize how much of them isn't real. And the funny thing is a lot of them co-opted some of it from black women. But because male aggression and violence has been so shamed into submission, they didn't co-opt the crazy violent aspect of it that women in general have co-opted. Instead they just talk and act the part, like in the example of the story above. Aggressive behavior without backing it up with any real action.

Accountability is basically a foreign concept these days.

I've seen him pump gas for a gal as all of the guys in the car sit there like a bunch of whimps... and it never fails to crack me up when suddenly one jumps out to try and save his own integrity which is already lost, and my husband gently though commandingly states; "it's okay, I'll do this for you, have a seat."

As to the jacket scenario, I've seen him countless times pick such things up and graciously hand them to a woman... although, he would NEVER say anything to the man. His smile alone to the woman and then nod to the man in an instant proving out who's woman that is if he so chooses, and who is the better and stronger man. Being gracious and a gentleman is ALL about power. Having so much power that you don't need to try and impress it upon people. He can be generous because he can afford to be, only boys are desperate to prove that their worth... and in cases like the OP presented, they already failed.

Men are subjected to violence our entire lives. Our entire lives.

We live in a world that expects us to be strong and tough and protect and provide and shows us no tenderness whatsoever. In exchange for that, we're the devil who is responsible for every issue women ever have. Especially if god forbid we're white.

If a man is killed, he is not made out to be some innocent the way it is with a woman. People might think it's a shame but in reality most think we somehow did something to deserve it. Only if it's determined we didn't are we really given any kind of sadness from people the way women are.

Men are more likely to be the victim of non-sexual violence and yet does anybody care? Is anybody concerned with making us more protected? No. Male issues are increasingly feminized which does nothing but ensure we aren't capable of fighting back like we need to.

A man can look at another guy wrong and have his head blown off or be attacked in some other way. Women are the object of lust and maybe sexual violence from men. Men are the subject of nothing but violence from other men. Straight men don't want to touch each other. Straight men want to beat each other into nothing. Rather than have standards for what forms of violence are acceptable and shame people for pulling a weapon or some other punk shit, we shame men into being ashamed of their justifiable reaction to the violent energy directed at us every single day.

We keep being told to become "enlightened" and shamed into being less full of testosterone yet at the same time we are told and shamed into being the complete opposite.
