The Browns will have basically two drafts in 2018 after their latest trade
The Browns front office pulled off a minor miracle Wednesday when it convinced the Chiefs to hand over a fifth-round draft pick for offensive lineman Cameron Erving, whose career highlight might be the time he injured himself trying to go low on Eric Weddle.
Cleveland's coaching staff tried its best to put Erving in a position to succeed, moving him all over the offensive line, but were unable to get anything out of him.
The team's Moneyball front office was able to get some value out of the last front office's mistake, landing yet another 2018 draft pick. That brings the Browns up to 13 picks in next year's draft...
The Browns now essentially have two 2018 drafts, with multiple picks in every round except the third (though, the third second-round pick makes up for that) and the seventh.
Cleveland is taking the right approach to rebuilding its roster, supplementing smart free agent signings with an influx of young, cheap talent from the draft. The NFL draft remains a lottery of sorts, so there's no guarantee the team will hit the jackpot, but the Browns now have far more tickets than any other team.
